Kieran is a founding partner of Hoctor Smyth and the studio’s lead Engineer.
Kieran obtained his Engineering degree at the Dublin Institute of Technology in 1999, and is a Chartered Engineer with Engineers Ireland since 2005. Prior to Establishing Hoctor Smyth in 2007, Kieran practiced as a Structural Engineer with Walsh Goodfellow in Dublin, and then SMG Doyle King in Athlone, working on the structural design of large commercial and residential projects of up to €120m in value, in Dublin and throughout Ireland, but also in London and Jersey.
Kieran applies his structural design knowledge to Hoctor Smyth’s projects, moving away from the all too commonly found limitations of rule-of-thumb design, and allowing the practice to develop economical but innovative solutions and elements of structure not usually seen in residential projects.
Kieran is also trained in the energy assessment of residential buildings, and is happy to advise clients on their various options for heating systems and energy efficient technologies in their new home, offering guidance on the most cost-effective ways to build in energy efficiency, based on payback through reduced energy bills, and methods to ensure a safe, healthy and comfortable living environment.
